No.39 Cafe
Suthep
08:30 - 17:00
Following the small roads in the Suthep area, this cafe feels like a place that instantly pulls you into a different world. The blue pond in the middle, surrounded by thick trees, is the symbol of the whole space, and the scattered wooden buildings and outdoor seats around it create the feeling of a small village hidden in the forest. Once I sit by the water with a breeze cutting through the humid air, it becomes very easy to forget the pace of the city for a while.
If I come here with work in mind, I would choose an indoor seat. The window tables with strong natural light are comfortable places to open a laptop and settle in. The Wi-Fi is decent enough for light tasks, and there are enough power outlets indoors that battery anxiety stays manageable. In the morning, there is sometimes live jazz, and writing or planning with that soft music in the background has a charm that feels unique to this place. Later in the day, DJ sets make the mood more lively, which can also work well when I need a change of pace.
To be honest, the drinks and desserts were not the strongest part for me. They generally felt a little expensive, and I would not say the taste alone stood out enough to justify the trip. What I was really paying for was the setting and the view. Because the cafe is also a well-known photo spot, weekday afternoons and weekends can get crowded with visitors trying to capture the perfect shot. The area around the pond often feels busy, so anyone looking for deep quiet might find it distracting.
Outdoor seating also comes with trade-offs. Since it is so close to nature, the tables are not always perfectly clean, and dealing with a few insects is part of the experience. The pond itself is artificial, so if someone expects a fully natural atmosphere, it may feel less convincing. At times, the water maintenance also looked a little disappointing, which is something more sensitive visitors may want to keep in mind.
Even so, the cafe is still an appealing place where nature, music, and a casual work mood coexist in a strange but memorable way. The relatively short opening hours make time there pass even faster, and I would not really treat it as a cafe for a long, serious work session. But on days when I want a looser Chiang Mai atmosphere and a little creative stimulation rather than a polished city cafe, this is one of the first places I think of. If lively background noise helps your ideas move, it is worth visiting at least once.
