Old Town
09:00 - 00:30
Walking along the western side of Chiang Mai's Old Town, this cafe stands out before I even reach the door. The rough concrete entrance and metallic details make the whole place feel more like a themed installation than a normal cafe. Once inside, the Mars concept is carried through surprisingly well, from the surfaces and lighting to the photo spots arranged deeper in the room. The space is fairly large, and each section has its own mood. Some seats feel like they belong inside a spacecraft, while other corners lean harder into rocky red textures and dramatic lighting. That variety keeps the room visually interesting, and it is easy to see why so many people come here as much for the setting as for the drinks. For laptop use, it is workable but not ideal. The Wi‑Fi is stable enough for light tasks, and some tables give me enough room to set up comfortably. At the same time, the seating is inconsistent, and several spots feel designed more for the look than for long stays. Power outlets also seem limited, so I would not depend on this place for an extended work session unless my battery is already in good shape. The menu clearly follows the same concept-driven approach as the interior. Signature drinks like the Mars latte and Nebula soda are designed to look striking first, but they do not feel purely decorative. The drinks are still balanced enough to be enjoyable, and the dessert side helps round out the visit if I want something sweet with the coffee. The main trade-off is noise and crowd level. Because the cafe is already well known as a photo-heavy stop, peak hours can feel hectic, with people moving around for pictures and the room losing any sense of quiet. If I want a calmer visit or a short block of work, going earlier in the day makes much more sense than arriving in the afternoon or evening. Overall, the space works best when I want a cafe that feels different from the usual Chiang Mai routine. It is stylish, theatrical, and memorable in a way most cafes do not try to be. I would not choose it for deep focus, but for a shorter session with decent Wi‑Fi, a visually playful drink, and a setting that genuinely feels transportive, it is easy to recommend.
