Taste Cafe
Suthep
07:00 - 17:00
When I step inside, I first feel the calm, youthful energy of Chiang Mai's outer Nimmanahaemin area and the nearby university. The minimal wood-toned interior reduces visual fatigue, while quiet music and low conversation blend into a good kind of white noise for working. Away from the excited bustle of the main tourist areas, the first impression is quite good for opening a laptop and settling my mind in a gentle atmosphere. The strength of this cafe is the air that makes it easy to focus and the low-pressure feeling of staying without spending too much. Local students naturally settle into their assignments or personal work here, so it does not feel awkward to open a laptop alone. The air conditioning is not so strong that I need a long sleeve, but it cools the heat outside pleasantly enough to sit for a while. Coffee and drinks are reasonably priced too, so ordering one more cup to extend the stay does not feel burdensome. As a cafe near the university, the mix of study and personal work fits naturally with the act of sitting down with a laptop. Among the work basics, the Wi-Fi is better than expected. Even when downloading fairly large files or joining a live video meeting, the connection stays steady enough that online work is not a major problem. On the other hand, power outlets are limited to some accessible seats along the wall. If I come in with a low battery, choosing a seat can become inconvenient, so it is better to charge devices fully or bring a power bank. The seating needs to be judged separately from the tables. The tables are roomy enough for a laptop, mouse, and notebook, but many chairs are made of hard wood or have limited cushioning. Short work sessions are fine, but if I keep my back straight and type for more than three or four hours, my body may start to feel stiff first. Rather than a place for pushing through heavy work all day, it suits focused use until the body gets tired. If posture matters for the work I have planned, it is better to stand up and stretch occasionally or set the session length short from the start. This place fits someone trying to finish dense work within two or three hours better than someone handling a heavy project all day. The outlet limits and firm chairs are real drawbacks, but the comfortable Wi-Fi, orderly indoor mood, and reasonable prices offset them fairly well. If I arrive with my devices charged, it can be a satisfying place to get work done with a smooth cup of coffee.
